Inside the Workforce Gateway: A New Video Series for Every Route After High School

Not every road leads through a four-year degree. The Workforce Gateway maps six major postsecondary routes — university, community college, skilled trades, apprenticeship, military service, and direct-to-work — into one structured 12-week course. Now paired with a new video series that walks you through every pathway.

Inside the Workforce Gateway: A New Video Series for Every Route After High School

For decades, the conversation around life after high school has been dominated by a single question: Where are you going to college? But that question leaves out most of the country. The majority of American adults don't hold a bachelor's degree — and many of them built fulfilling, well-compensated careers through routes that never required one.

Today, I'm announcing two things that work together: the Workforce Gateway — a new eight-module course that maps six major postsecondary routes into one structured journey — and a new video series that walks you through every pathway the Academy offers, including the Workforce Gateway itself.

The Workforce Gateway

The Workforce Gateway is built for students who are deciding what comes next — and for the families, counselors, and program directors supporting them. It doesn't assume a four-year degree. It assumes a decision that deserves the same evidence-based roadmap we've always given the college-bound.

The course covers six major routes:

  • University — for students pursuing a traditional four-year degree
  • Community college — for students who want to transfer, earn an associate degree, or build a technical credential
  • Skilled trades — for students drawn to electrician, plumbing, HVAC, welding, and construction careers
  • Apprenticeship programs — for students who want to earn while they learn
  • Military service — for students considering the armed forces as a pathway to education, training, and career
  • Direct-to-work — for students entering the workforce immediately, with a plan for advancement

Each route is treated with the same rigor we apply to college access. The course includes 40 lessons across 8 modules, structured as a 12-week program, with action assignments, mastery prompts, and community prompts in every lesson — the same evidence-based architecture that runs through every Mikael Davis Academy pathway.

The capstone is a Career Architecture Plan — a personalized document that helps each student articulate their chosen route, the steps to get there, the credentials they'll need, and the financial implications of their decision.

The Video Series

Alongside the Workforce Gateway, we're building out a video library that gives every family a guided tour of what the Academy offers. The series — anchored by the Optimizing Student Achievement podcast — walks through each pathway in plain language:

  • The All-Access Bundle and what it includes
  • The College Access Blueprint and the five things every application must have
  • Show Me The Money and the scholarship campaign framework
  • The AMCAS Blueprint for pre-med students
  • The Graduate School Preparation Blueprint
  • The Grant Writer's Studio for nonprofit professionals
  • And now, the Workforce Gateway

The videos are short, practical, and designed for the student or parent who wants to understand what a pathway covers before they enroll. You can watch the full library on our video page or on the Mikael Davis Academy YouTube channel.

Why This Matters Now

The student debt crisis is, in part, a routing crisis. Students who enroll in a four-year program without a clear plan — or who would have thrived in a trade, a community college pathway, or military service — are the ones most likely to borrow heavily and leave without a degree. The Workforce Gateway exists to make sure that doesn't happen. It gives students permission to choose the route that fits — and the roadmap to execute it well.

Pricing and Access

The Workforce Gateway is available as a standalone pathway at $59/month (structured as a 3-month program) or $149 paid in full. It's also included in the All-Access Bundle alongside University Gateway, Show Me The Money, and The Ultimate College Access Blueprint — so families who want the full curriculum get every route, including this one, in a single enrollment.

For institutional programs — TRIO Upward Bound, Educational Talent Search, GEAR UP, KIPP, and other college-access organizations — the Workforce Gateway is available as part of a 12-month institutional license. Schedule a conversation to discuss customized pricing for your program.

Start Here

If you're a student deciding what comes next — or a parent, counselor, or program director helping someone make that decision — the Workforce Gateway is the roadmap. Watch the video series first if you want the overview. Then explore the course and start building your Career Architecture Plan.

Every student deserves a clear path forward. Now there are six — and a video series to walk you through each one.
